We are at a political crossroads. The economy is still struggling from the devastatingly deep hole that President Obama inherited from George W. Bush. The political action that we take today through November 6 will decide our future as union members.
We have a responsibility to get out the vote, with our state and federation endorsed candidates. The working middle class needs to take the lead to get our economy back on track. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan and their republican allies are willing to sabotage the recovery for their political interests.
I ask you today to commit to volunteer to phone, door knock and register to vote. This November’s election is about the future of our country. The labor movement must be committed to the policies of “prosperity economics” – reforms that will unite America by creating jobs, promoting economic security and rebuilding our democracy.
Four years ago working union families chose to go a different direction. We chose to stand for fairness, a voice for all of the middle class. Nov. 6 we have a choice to build a labor movement of working men and women to move America forward.
President Obama and the Democratic Party stand for the right to bargain collectively for a better life. As President, Obama stated “We’ve come too far to go back. Now is the time to continue moving that vision forward.”
