The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and King of Kings Lutheran Church of Woodbury today announced record fundraising totals from the organizations’ Holiday Lights in the Park display in 2013.

Proceeds from the nightly holiday-light display in St. Paul’s Phalen Park, as well as a related holiday concert and CD sales, totaled $86,000 last year, the highest amount in the event’s six-year run.

Funds were distributed to five charitable organizations: Second Harvest HeartlandUnion Gospel Mission, the Saint Paul Parks ConservancySaint Paul Police Foundation, and UnderConstruction, an organization that introduces at-risk youth to careers in the Building Trades.

To date, $336,000 has been raised for these charities over Holiday Lights’ six-year run.

“The true charitable spirit of our community shined this past holiday season,” Holiday Lights Co-Chair Vicki Sandberg said. “Despite challenges that ranged from a shorter Holiday season to frigid temperatures, our dedicated patrons came out and celebrated the season all while supporting five great nonprofits who do so much for our community.”

Sandberg also credited Holiday Lights’ volunteers, including Electrical Workers who assembled the display and the people who staffed it each night.

“An event like this is only as good as the people who give of their time and talents to make it all work,” she said.
