The Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry is putting a spotlight on workers’ rights this week, with hundreds of outreach events across the state to educate workers and employers.

The volunteer effort, started in 1986, has since given back over $4 million in volunteer work hours and repairs to nearly 8,500 Minnesota households, reducing their energy costs and preventing heat failure.

As a labor movement, it’s imperative that we mobilize union members to get to the polls and vote in our general election on or before Nov. 5.

“With Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, your paycheck is safe, your health care is secure and your pension is protected,” one labor leader said.

The layoffs came with just two-days notice – and a demand that workers sign away their recall rights, laid out in the union contract, as a tradeoff for severance pay and job coaching.

“We know Minnesota can meet its affordable housing needs and development goals without sacrificing worker dignity and safety.”
